Grade 4 GCSE Maths: six free practice booklets

To get a passing Grade 4 on a Higher paper, your best bet is to focus on the questions at the start. These booklets collect 115 of these early, real Edexcel past-paper questions. They are grouped by topic, and you’ll find the mark schemes in a separate document.

How this works: Exam papers get harder as you go, so the first third is usually the easiest. We grouped these questions by their position in the paper, not by official grade. Because of this, they aren’t strictly "Grade 4" questions, and some will be harder than others. Use this as a general guide to prioritise your topics, not a strict guarantee of difficulty.

How to get the most out of them

  • Do it without the answers first. That is why the mark schemes are a separate download — having them open beside you turns practice into copying.
  • Give yourself roughly a minute a mark. Everything here is worth five marks or fewer, so no single question should swallow your afternoon.
  • Mark it honestly, then redo what you dropped. Not tomorrow — now, while you can still remember what you were thinking. Repeating the ones you got wrong is where the grade actually moves.
  • Start with Ratio if you are short of time. It carries 83 marks across 20 questions, more per question than any of the others.
