Grade 4 GCSE Maths: six free practice booklets
To get a passing Grade 4 on a Higher paper, your best bet is to focus on the questions at the start of it. These booklets collect those questions, so your child spends their time on the marks they are most likely to win.
How this works: Exam papers get harder as you go, so the first third is usually the easiest. We grouped these questions by their position in the paper, not by official grade. Because of this, they aren’t strictly "Grade 4" questions, and some will be harder than others. Use this as a general guide to prioritise your topics, not a strict guarantee of difficulty.

Expressions, equations, formulae, graphs and sequences. 20 questions taken from the opening section of real Edexcel Higher papers, each worth five marks or fewer.
Statistics starter booklet
Tables, charts, averages and correlation. 20 questions taken from the opening section of real Edexcel Higher papers, each worth five marks or fewer.
Probability starter booklet
Likelihood, expectation and listing outcomes. 15 questions taken from the opening section of real Edexcel Higher papers, each worth five marks or fewer.
Same grade 4. Three times the marks.
In 2026 a grade 4 took 50 marks on Higher. On Foundation it took 151. Both papers are out of 240. Most parents are never told this. How to get the most out of them
- Do it without the answers first. That is why the mark schemes are a separate download. Having them open beside you turns practice into copying.
- Give yourself roughly a minute a mark. Everything here is worth five marks or fewer, so no single question should swallow your afternoon.
- Mark it honestly, then redo what you dropped. Not tomorrow. Do it now, while you can still remember what you were thinking. Repeating the ones you got wrong is where the grade actually moves.
- Start with Ratio if you are short of time. It carries 83 marks across 20 questions, more per question than any of the others.
