Marked Properly
We mark to the standard these papers are actually marked at. Getting the right answer is not the same as a complete argument, and we say so while there is still time to fix it.
Choosing Your Questions
Much of STEP is deciding what to attempt. We teach students to read a paper in the first few minutes and pick the questions that suit them.

Common Questions
Is Year 12 too early to start?
No. Year 13 is usually too late. These papers test a way of thinking that takes time to build, and Year 12 is the window where there is still room to build it.
I keep reading about the MAT. Do I still sit it?
No. Oxford dropped the MAT and moved to the TMUA from the 2026 admissions round, which is 2027 entry. Applicants for Maths, Computer Science and the joint courses now sit the TMUA. A lot of older guides and forum threads still point at the MAT, and preparing for the wrong paper is the most common mistake we see.
Do I sit the TMUA or STEP for Cambridge?
Both, at different stages. Every Cambridge maths applicant sits the TMUA before decisions are made. If you then get an offer it will normally carry STEP conditions, usually grade 1 in STEP 2 and 3. Imperial and Warwick used to run on STEP and have moved to the TMUA, though at Warwick STEP is still an alternative route and at Imperial a strong TMUA score is what keeps a STEP condition off your offer.
Do you cover the ESAT?
We cover the maths side of it. Mathematics 1 is compulsory for everyone, and you then take two more modules from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics 2. Giuliano teaches Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2. If your course requires Physics, Chemistry or Biology you will need a separate tutor for those, and we will tell you that upfront rather than take the booking.
Can you help with the Oxford or Cambridge interview?
Yes. We run mock interviews that work the way the real ones do: a problem you have not seen, thinking out loud, and an interviewer who nudges rather than tells. Most candidates have never had to work that way before the day itself.
