TMUA 2027 entry: dates, fees, universities and scoring

Key dates

There are two sittings: 12 to 16 October 2026 and 4 to 8 January 2027.

In China, Hong Kong and Macau the TMUA runs only on 15 and 16 October and on 8 January. Everywhere else it runs on every day of each sitting. Source: UAT-UK: key dates.

Which sitting your university takes

If you apply to Oxford or Cambridge, you must sit in October. The only exceptions are a Cambridge mature college or an Oxford Foundation Year course whose deadline is in January. Source: UAT-UK: about the TMUA.

Which universities and courses use the TMUA

Seven universities use the TMUA for 2027 entry: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Warwick and Durham. Source: UAT-UK: courses for 2027 entry (PDF), then each university's own page.

Oxford now uses the TMUA. The MAT will not run for 2027 entry. If you apply for maths or computer science at Oxford, you sit the TMUA instead. Any guide that still says MAT is out of date. Source: Oxford Mathematical Institute: TMUA.

Required means you must sit it. Recommended and Optional mean you do not have to.

University of Oxford

Every course here needs the October sitting. Source: Oxford: admissions tests.

University of Cambridge

Imperial College London

Imperial asks for it on every course in its Computing and Mathematics departments. It also asks for it on Economics, Finance and Data Science. Source: Imperial: TMUA.

London School of Economics (LSE)

For the recommended courses, LSE says a good score may make your application stronger. Source: LSE: TMUA.

University College London (UCL)

University of Warwick

If you can get a contextual offer, you do not have to sit it for the required courses. Warwick says its contextual rules may change for 2027. Source: Warwick: admissions tests.

Durham University

What the test looks like

The TMUA is two 75-minute papers of 20 multiple-choice questions, sat on a computer with no calculator.

How it is scored

You get one score from 1.0 to 9.0, given to one decimal place.

• You get a single overall score, from 1 (low) to 9 (high), to one decimal place. Source: UAT-UK: test results.
• Your score is based on how many questions you get right. Source: UAT-UK: about the TMUA.
• Your result appears in your UAT-UK account about four weeks after your test. Source: UAT-UK: test results.
• It is sent automatically to the universities in your UCAS application. Source: UAT-UK: test results.

There is no official score table for the on-screen test. UAT-UK has not published a table that turns marks into scores for the on-screen test. Sitting the TMUA outside the UK

You can sit the TMUA in more than 180 countries, and the fee depends on where your test centre is.
