Grammar Schools in Walsall
Walsall's two Queen Mary's schools sit the shared West Midlands consortium paper, on the Saturday rather than the Monday used in Telford. Neither has a catchment area, which makes Walsall one of the few selective areas where where you live is close to irrelevant.

What families in Walsall need to know
- Queen Mary's Grammar reserves up to 30% of its intake for Pupil Premium candidates who reach the qualifying score - around 54 of its 180 places. That is the largest such quota anywhere in the consortium, and priority within it goes to children at state-funded Walsall primaries.
- There is no catchment. After looked-after children and the Pupil Premium quota, places go on rank order of standardised score, with distance used only to break ties.
- Queen Mary's Grammar publishes an approximate minimum qualifying score in advance, confirmed by governors in the November after the test. The figure of 200 currently in circulation is a 2026-entry number, not this round's.
- Walsall sits on the Saturday while Telford sits on the Monday, despite taking the same paper through the same portal.
- Queen Mary's High School publishes its admissions material in formats that cannot be read automatically, so its sitting date, intake number and qualifying score are not listed here. Contact the school directly.
