Telford's two grammar schools sit the same consortium paper as Birmingham, Walsall, Warwickshire and Wolverhampton - but on a different day, and with admission rules that look nothing like the rest of the partnership. This is the only part of the consortium with feeder schools and boarding.

What families in Telford and Wrekin need to know
- The date attaches to the test centre, not the consortium. Telford sits on Monday 14 September while Walsall sits on Saturday 12 September, so there is no single West Midlands test day.
- Haberdashers' Adams is the only boarding grammar in the partnership: 135 day places plus up to 15 boys as boarders, who are separately interviewed for suitability on top of the written test.
- Adams ranks 34 designated feeder primary schools above general test rank order. No other school in the consortium uses feeders at all.
- Newport Girls' has a genuine published boundary area. Girls inside it who reach the qualifying score are placed above everyone else who passes, and up to 15 places are held for Pupil Premium girls from designated Telford and Wrekin primaries.
- Telford and Wrekin Council runs none of this. Its own admissions scheme points families to the two schools' websites and stops there.
- The paper is two tests of about 50 minutes covering English comprehension, verbal reasoning, maths and non-verbal or spatial reasoning, weighted 50% English and verbal, 25% non-verbal, 25% maths, then age-standardised.
