Grammar Schools in Kent
Kent runs the largest grammar school system in England. All 32 grammar schools use the Kent Test, a GL Assessment paper covering English, maths and reasoning, and a single sitting counts for every school in the county.

What families in Kent need to know
- Seven schools also accept pupils who reach the required standard in their own separate test, as an additional route alongside the Kent Test: Borden, Mayfield Grammar Gravesend, Dover Grammar for Boys, Dover Grammar for Girls, The Folkestone School for Girls, The Harvey Grammar and Highsted.
- Dover Grammar School for Girls runs the 'Dover Test' through Quest Assessments, and Weald of Kent has introduced its own Quest-administered assessment new for 2027 entry. Both sit alongside the Kent Test rather than replacing it — passing either route qualifies.
- Kent County Council tendered for a new Kent Test provider in June 2026, with a contract starting March 2027. The earliest a new provider could deliver is the September 2027 test, so the autumn 2026 round is unaffected.
