Grammar Schools in Kent
Kent runs the largest grammar school system in England. All 32 grammar schools use the Kent Test, a GL Assessment paper covering English, maths and reasoning, and a single sitting counts for every school in the county.

Free familiarisation booklets that show the question types, the timings and how the answer sheet works. GL do not release past papers, so anything sold as a GL past paper was written by somebody else.
What families in Kent need to know
- Seven schools also accept pupils who reach the required standard in their own separate test, as an additional route alongside the Kent Test: Borden, Mayfield Grammar Gravesend, Dover Grammar for Boys, Dover Grammar for Girls, The Folkestone School for Girls, The Harvey Grammar and Highsted.
- Dover Grammar School for Girls runs the 'Dover Test' through Quest Assessments, and Weald of Kent has introduced its own Quest-administered assessment new for 2027 entry. Both sit alongside the Kent Test rather than replacing it. Passing either route qualifies.
- Kent County Council tendered for a new Kent Test provider in June 2026, with a contract starting March 2027. The earliest a new provider could deliver is the September 2027 test, so the autumn 2026 round is unaffected.
