Grammar Schools in Trafford
The Trafford Grammar School Consortium runs a shared entrance test. GL Assessment remains the provider for the round currently open; FSCE has been appointed but does not take over yet.
The exam provider is changing for 2028 entry
Trafford is moving from GL Assessment to FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise). The change applies from September 2028 entry onwards — children sitting the test in autumn 2026 still take the GL Assessment paper. If your child is currently in Year 4 or below, prepare for the new format.
What families in Trafford need to know
- GL remains the provider for 2027 entry, with testing in September 2026. FSCE applies for entry from 2028 onwards.
- From 2029 entry the test moves to the latter part of the summer term in Year 5, rather than September of Year 6.
- Consortium schools: Altrincham Grammar for Boys, Altrincham Grammar for Girls, Sale Grammar, Stretford Grammar and Urmston Grammar.
