Grammar Schools in Gloucestershire
All seven Gloucestershire grammar schools share a consortium entrance test. For the round currently open the provider is GL Assessment — the widely reported move to FSCE has been announced but has not taken effect yet.
The exam provider is changing for 2028 entry
Gloucestershire is moving from GL Assessment to FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise). The change applies from September 2028 entry onwards — children sitting the test in autumn 2026 still take the GL Assessment paper. If your child is currently in Year 4 or below, prepare for the new format.
What families in Gloucestershire need to know
- The switch to FSCE applies to the test sat in summer 2027, for entry in September 2028. Families preparing for the September 2026 test should be working to the GL format.
- The test also moves earlier when FSCE takes over — from September of Year 6 to the summer term of Year 5. That is a significant change to preparation timelines for anyone currently in Year 4.
- Schools affected: Pate's, Stroud High, Marling, Sir Thomas Rich's, The Crypt, Ribston Hall and Denmark Road.
