About me how i fell in love with tutoring

My love for it began while studying maths at The University of East Anglia. While there, I worked with a charity to help children from underprivileged backgrounds improve their maths and English.

Watching the growth of these children was incredible and inspired me to pursue this as my job.

I knew if I wanted to make the most impact on a student, it would be in a one-to-one setting. That's because I can change my style to fit the student's needs.

To make the most impact on a student, it would be in a 1-to-1 lesson. I can change my style to fit the student's needs.

And for the last 7 years, I have done that. I've helped students go from grade 3 to grade 7 in their GCSEs.

I have helped A-Level students with their entrance exams to Oxford or Cambridge.

I'm extraordinarily proud of each of my students and go to the best of my ability to give them the support they're seeking.

Tutoring Why should I hire a maths coach?

It's a common belief that you should only hire a tutor if you're struggling with a subject.

And you should not hire a tutor if you're achieving high results in class! However, this mindset can limit your potential.

Consider top athletes like Rafael Nadal or Lionel Messi—they wouldn't reach their peak without their coaches. Similarly, students aiming for excellence need the right support to achieve their highest potential.

If you're an ambitious student aiming for a top university or a high-flying career, you need to be among the best. Achieving top grades like a 9 or an A* is crucial, but to truly stand out, you need to go beyond these scores.

For students pursuing stem paths, I aim to keep them a year ahead in their studies. This allows us to focus on applying to the best universities or securing top apprenticeships.

Many of my top students now study at prestigious institutions like Bath, LSE, and Imperial, or work in competitive industries.

My approach is to help students complete GCSE math by Year 10, allowing us to start A-level math in Year 11. This strategy gives them extra time to focus on other subjects and strengthens their A-level preparation.

It's a challenging path, but the rewards are worth it.

YouTube Olympiad maths problems

I use these problems to help my highest achieving students.

The Olympiad is a maths event for children in primary and secondary school. Winning can help you get into the best universities like Cambridge and Oxford.

You can also be head-hunted at companies like Jane Street, Two Sigma Investments, or Quora.

Olympiad problems go much further than regular school questions. They make you understand topics more deeply.

Check out my channel for more examples of these problems.

FAQ Most Common GCSE questions

How does the new 9-1 grading system compare to the old A*-F grades?

The new grades go from 9 (the best) to 1 (the lowest). A grade 4 is like the old C grade, which is a pass.

How does GCSE Maths work, and what are the main parts of the course?

GCSE Maths includes topics like numbers, shapes, data, and algebra. Students must achieve a minimum of grade 4 to pass.

What is the difference of Higher vs Foundation, and which one should my child aim for?

There are two levels of GCSE Maths: Foundation (grades 1-5) and Higher (grades 4-9). The grade 4/5 content is the same for both exams.

What are the most important topics my child needs to learn in GCSE Maths?

The main topics are algebra, shapes, ratio, graphs and probability. Mastering just these topics can lead to a grade 5.
